NEWRY GIRLS LIFT DALE FARM U14 LEAGUE TROPHY

NEWRY Girls won the Dale Farm U14 Mid Ulster League with eight wins out of eight.

Having already secured the U14 title before the last day of the league, it was then just a case of them protecting their 100 per cent record in their final two matches on the day against Banbridge Girls and Mid Ulster Juniors - and that was exactly what they did.

In the opening game against Mid Ulster Girls, Newry dominated from kick-off with four goals from Éireann McLaughlin and one from Moya Feehan.  At the heart of the defence Marianne McGlee remained in control throughout the game and was the main reason for Newry keeping a clean sheet. Mid Ulster struggled to get into the game, with Hannah Smyth putting in a great performance for the Mid Ulster side.  Ciara Mulvenna was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for Newry Girls.

In the final game Newry put on an impressive display, scoring nine goals against the young Banbridge side.  Despite going into the game as underdogs Banbridge started well, but just couldn’t cope with the pressure exerted by the Newry attackers.  Éireann McLaughlin and Maura McCann both notched up a hat-trick, with further goals from Lisa McCann, Moya Feehan and Katie Louise McAleenan.  ‘Player of the Match’ was awarded to Éireann McLaughlin of Newry.
