Newry City 3 - 2 Glenavon

THREE goals in eleven blistering minutes were enough to hand Newry City victory in this entralling fixture at The Showgrounds.

Rory Hamill came closest inside an otherwise uneventful opening half-an-hour with an attempted 35-yard lob over Andy Coleman after the Newry 'keeper miskicked a clearance.

The deadlock was broken barely 20 seconds after the break when Ryan Harpur converted from the spot after a soft penalty was awarded for a Cullen Feeney handball.

City might have levelled on the hour when Alan Davidson had an impressive shot from 18 yards only for his effort to fall just the wrong side of the post.

Newry did equalise just nine minutes later after Glenavon 'keeper Andrew Plummer could only palm a stinging Davidson drive into the path of the dangerous Ger Rowe who finished easily.

City moved in front five minutes later from the spot when Stephen Garrett converted after he had been brought down by Willo McDonagh, who earned himself a second yellow card in the process, this was after an earlier stone-wall penalty was denied on the industrious and ever lethal Garrett.

Substitute Andy Graham then made it 3-1 on 80 minutes when he found himself unmarked at the far post to finish with composure, however the visitors pulled one back two minutes from time through Stuart King whose cross from the left took a freak deflection and spun up and over the blameless Coleman in goal.
