 Youth Academy Update

The Newry City Youth Academy has been very busy in recent weeks preparing for the new season and trials have being taking place at The Showgrounds for all teams within the Academy.

Both the U13 and U15 boys teams are busy preparing for the Foyle Cup Competition which takes place in Derry. The players have been training hard for the competition and the coaches have been working hard on fundraising events to raise the finance required to make their participation at the tournament possible. Everyone at Newry City wishes the boys and coaches all the best for the tournament and hopes everyone has a safe and enjoyable time in the North West.

The U12 boys recently took part in a Cross Community event in Co. Louth organised by Bellurgan United FC. The purpose of the scheme was to build meaningful partnerships through sport on a cross community, cross border basis. Everyone from Newry City had a great day out and were well treated by their hosts Bellurgan  United FC and on behalf of Joe Hutchinson, the U12 players and their parents we would like to thank them for their hospitality and look forward to participating in similar events with them in the future.

The Newry City Special Olympics Football team recently took part in the All Ireland Games in Limerick. The players were training hard every Sunday morning at our 3G pitches prior to the event and during their last training session City Goalkeeper Andy Coleman dropped in to put the goalkeepers through their paces and offer the team some advice. Jim Fox their coach said that everyone had a fantastic time in Limerick and the team performed very well with every player giving their best! Newry City would like to congratulate Jim and the players on their efforts and doing the City proud!

The Academy Welfare Officer, Barry Traynor has been in discussions with the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) about providing an awareness course for all our Academy Managers and Coaches and this training will hopefully take place before the new season kicks off.

This season we also hope to create a Parents Committee to enable parents to play an active role within the Academy and also give them the opportunity to raise any proposals or concerns that they may have. Any parent who is interested in getting involved should contact the Academy Coordinator Ronan McGrath or any Academy Coach.

Finally we are always looking for help so if anyone is available to help out with some Academy administration work or wish to apply for a coaching position at the Academy please contact the Academy Coordinator Ronan McGrath, any Academy Coach or send your details to info@newrycityfc.com
