Newry City Future Development Plans

Our Development Team are proud to announce our 2009-12 Development Plan for the Showgrounds, this is the first airing to the general public and we wanted our loyal fans to be the first to see what will be happening soon at their ground.
Below you will see a brief outline of the Masterplan. We will be publicly launching this development in Early March with a large scale press announcement. General ground and facility improvements will continue alongside this major development plan.
Our intention is to create a soccer school of excellence for 6-13 year olds and a youth academy for 14-18 year old players. We have contacted Clive Richardson, one of Ireland's leading sports ground construction specialists to install three number 3G synthetic pitches replacing the current dust pitches at the front of the social club.
They are programmed to commence on site on Monday 2nd March with completion by end of April 2009. Stephen McNally, director with Clive Richardson commented "Worldwide, FIFA is promoting football on artificial turf when good quality natural grass connot be achieved or is not able to meet playing demands. Capable of 24/7 play and low on maintenance, high quality systems are now available for players of all abilities.
With softer, longer pile surfaces offering excellent playing characteristics and improving on natural turf in performance, both increased durability and safer play are guarunteed. Newry City will be installing these high quality surfaces for the enjoyment of all levels of players at the showgrounds." The design of the "cages" will eman the ball will remain live at all times and with the added benefit of the over net, maximum enjoyment is available for all players using the facility.
These Facilities will be available for use by the public and Newry City FC players of all ages.

The Masterplan above what the Showgrounds will look like when the development works are complete, we will have 7 synthetic pitches of various sizes in total catering for all the soccer needs of the greater Newry area and beyond plus a refurbished grass fully floodlit training pitch.
This will enable the club to compete at the highest level whilst also increasing the fan base through sharing the facilities with local amateur clubs, schools, youth clubs and making Newry City FC a centre of excellence for soccer in the North of Ireland.
Phase 1A
Will comprise of a new 500 seat covered stand to the current West Terrace (behind river end goals) and the installation of a new CCTV room, drug testing room and a media suite (all IFA domestic licence requirements for the 2009/10 season) all works to be completed by August 2009.
Phase 2
Construction of the additional 4 synthetic pitches, refurbished grass floodlit training pitch and new changing room facilities, offices, car parking and new access road.
